  24.             The Center for Experimental Research in Parallel Algorithms,
  25.             Software  and  Systems  (CERPASS)  provides  an experimental
  26.             facility for researchers on the Internet.
  27.  
  28.             The Center's parallel computing resource includes a  Connec-
  29.             tion Machine CM-2 and a Symult Series 2010.
  30.  
  31.             The Connection Machine Model CM-2 is  a  massively  parallel
  32.             SIMD  machine.  Its hardware consists of 16,384 data proces-
  33.             sors interconnected via a hypercube network.  Each processor
  34.             has  a bit-serial ALU and a 64K-bit local memory.  This CM-2
  35.             has two front-end subsystems - one VAX 6210 and one  Symbol-
  36.             ics  3600,  a  5-Gigabyte  mass storage system and a graphic
  37.             color display device.  Half of the machine (i.e., 8,192 pro-
  38.             cessors)  is  also equipped with floating-point accelerator.
  39.             Programming languages  available  on  this  machine  include
  40.             *Lisp, C* and Paris interfaces to Commonlisp and C.

  42.             The Symult S2010 is a  message-passing,  distributed  memory
  43.             MIMD  machine.   Its  hardware  consists of 32 computational
  44.             nodes.  Each node has a 32-bit Motorola 68020 microprocessor
  45.             as  its  CPU, augmented by the Motorola 68881 floating-point
  46.             coprocessors.  Each node has 8MB local memory, and  is  con-
  47.             nected  with  other  nodes  via a high-speed message-routing
  48.             network (GigaLink).  This machine uses  a  Sun-3  front-end,
  49.             and  can  be  programmed  in  C  and  the parallel extension
